Eighth-Grader Social Promotion Proposal Is Facing Opposition

You can extend school time but are the children still learning. The children have too much homework and still get homework on the weekends. What kind of class work is being done. The way the children are being taught today in school is a wonder. The teacher's have a curriculum and that's all they seem to know. There may be some teachers that are concerned that the child leaves their class with something learned. It seem to me that all the homework being sent home is a part of what should be learned in school. There are text books that the children have for each class and the books are being left home for homework? I think the textbooks should be for school as well. When learning from the textbook it should be done in school as well. The teacher should be going over what is in the text book in school together with the children in class. So, if a child does not understand what is in the book he/she should be able to ask the teacher. When he/she brings the textbook home for homework the parents will know if the child had went over some of the chapter/s in class in order to help him/her with their homework. There is a bundle of work piled up in a short time how can one learn. I am doing homework everynight and I am not in 6th grade. My son just started 6th grade in public school and he comes home with at least 3 hours or more of homework everynight. He is very depressed and overwhelmed. This is where the children are suppose to be preparing for high school starting in the 6th grade. Now if the school Mayor wants to tighten eighth grade promotion the middle school should prepare them in a better way starting in the 6th grade.
