Obama and Vouchers

Submitted by mnjam, Feb 25, 2008 10:02

Obama has called for merit pay of teachers, an act of political courage which neither Hillary nor McCain has matched.

Calls for vouchers are hypocrisy unless those calling for it to propose address radical inequality in funding that results from reliance on local property taxes in an era of increasing residential segregation by wealth. Otherwise, te vouchers given to parents in poorer school districts simply won't "buy" anything. McCain and other voucher advocates do not address that. It's a hoax.

There is no inconsistency between Obama's opposition to vouchders to date and his willingness to consider them in the future. He's simply signaling an open mind. UNLIKE JOHN McCAIN or CLINTON.
