McCain Facing Big Clash Over Campaign Cash

Submitted by Bill Metz, Feb 25, 2008 02:17

I'm a McCain supporter, though a bit grudgingly.

Nonetheless, it gives me some pleasure to see him skewered by McCain-Feingold, a law which seems replete with unintended consequences while berefit of any and all redeeming values.

It seems Mr. McCain is dependent on a Democrat-controlled senate to approve FEC appointees in order to have a quorum such as to permit him to opt out of the program. Fat chance!

Meanwhile, Obama can spend millions per day campaining while McCain is restricted by law (of his own design) to a million or so per month.

If it didn't hurt so much, it would be hilarious to note that Mayor Bloomberg can promise Obama 1 billion should he run as an independent, move-on-dot -org and Soros can spend countless millions promoting their candidate, and McCain is completely hamstrung legally to a pittance per fortnight..

Oh what tangled webs we weave when first we nearsightedly attempt to improve.

Unintended consequences are the guaranteed result of hastily drawn, well intentioned laws.
