Did you expect anything else? We support the secession of part of their country and what they perceive to be the persectution of their cousins, the ethnic Serbs who were living in a part of Serbia and we expect the Serb on the street to take it without protest? This area is one where there are no clear cut borders. We have areas where multiple ethnic groups live near eachother and now that we support each one's independence, what will we do with the new minorities?

What would the USA do if Alaska decided that it wanted to withdraw from the union? What would France do if Alsace or Brittany would take a vote tomorrow to become a free country? Why does the USA support Spain against the Basques rather than recognise Basque independence? The answer is simple, the Serbs have a bad PR department. They could just as easily been seen as the victims of Kosovar pogroms and ethnic cleansing. So, the USA is standing behind Germany and against Russia. We have yet to hear the last word.
