Teachers Get Big Gift From GOP

Submitted by DW, Feb 18, 2008 11:36

Let's elect all new Republicans and Democrat state legislators, because the current legislators voted to permit teachers to retire with full pensions after 25 years. Neither the legislators nor Mayor Bloomberg who clearly lied when he said that the bill is revenue neutral, represent the interests of NY taxpayers. There is a growing disconnect between teachers and government employees who are permitted to retire on full pensions at age 55 and all the taxpayers in the private sector who are required to work at least until 66 to claim social security. I believe that government employees should be required to work at least until age 60 to claim a full pension. This abuse of the NY taxpayers follows Government Pataki's approval of a bill several years ago that added cost of living increases to pensions.
