MTA Approves Unpopular Fare Hike

Submitted by Bart, Feb 14, 2008 10:19

Coming from Europe to the "World Class" city of New York, I was shocked by the grime, and slow service of the New York city transit system. The subway cars are disgustingly filthy, filled with newspapers and half filled soda bottles, the smell of urine was overwhelming. I watched some teenagers eat fried chicken from a red and white box and then leave the whole mess on the seat next to them. And the subway seats seemed too small for the size of the average New Yorker. I imagine if I lived here I would learn ignore the whole experience. As for the price increase, it does not really matter because the dollar keeps getting weaker so for international travelers, New York is very cheap. Bart DeJong
