It's not so much that Katherine Banks received a superb education. There can only be 40 finalists in the nation of how many children in that age bracket? These children's are geniuses and prodigies in their own right. While it is still possible that Ms. Banks reached the finalist position due to her academic past, we have to take into account numerous factors including personal motivation. Apathy on whose part? The bureaucrats trying to fix the education system or the students glued on TV, myspace, facebook, and youtube? I know those selected must be well rounded students (as per the application questions and inquiries into jobs, volunteer services, etc.) but something tells me these kids are not the normal high schoolers that you see, even in the best oh I don't know Long Island schools or other elite private schools.
