Apple Store Doesn't Fall Far From the Tree

Of course, this store is w-a-y out there if you take into consideration the architecture of all the Apple stores. This one is among just 12 or so out of 204 that don't follow the stainless steel exterior model. The fact that Apple retained the exterior is extraordinary, actually. The stores' 3-story staircase is also distinguishing--none of the other stairs are as tall. As for why the store was located here--two words:Robert Futterman. He gave them a deal on the lease to coax them in, hoping to increase the value of his leases on other properties he holds in the District. It's worked. Lastly, people are flocking to the store. If you watch a weekend crowd in particular, you'll see more couples and more baby stollers that you'd imagine. And with the subway just a block away, there will be plenty of people coming to this store for repairs on their products, figuring its Genius Bar will be less crowded than other stores.
