Automat Is About To Return in the East Village

From this story and how BAMN automat is described, with very limited seating, etc, it seems merely like another 'fast-food' place but without service or anyone taking orders (i.e. MacDonalds, Burger King). It lacks the old character of the original Horn&Hardart and certainly the type of food, which was prepared food, I think on the premises. I wonder whether the food will be prepared on the premises or prepackaged and delivered. The only similarity to the original is the use of a machine and quarters, but this time many more quarters.

It would be very nice to see a retro Horn&Hardart Automat, with seating, good fresh food, and a restaurant for everyone and anyone. I have the fondest of memories as a little girl going to the H&H Automat with her uncle and sisters. I grew up going to the H&H Automat and was sorry when the last one closed its doors and auctioned off the machines. But I did get to bring my daughter there and brag about my time there at her age. Horn&Hardart's Automat was not just a restaurant in New York City, it was a tradition of City life, and like another great restaurant, Luchow's, should have been preserved -- tradition, like an historical building, is worth preserving, or should be.
