France uses a system like this (single payer) and their health care system is rated near the top in the world. Here's a question that I think is key in the mind of overhauling health care. Should the first concern about the practice of medicine be....how much money the insurance companies can make? The obvious answer is no. If we take the profit out (for health insurance companies) of the practice of medicine, then possibly we can make the focus of the health care industry what it should be. The health of American citizens. Now there is a novel idea. Kick the insurance companies out of equation. Watch the costs go down. Watch the focus change.
