Capitalism Doesn't Work?

Submitted by Lawrence Gulotta, Jan 25, 2008 11:10

"So I just have to smile when billionaires like Bill Gates and George Soros turn cold shoulders to the blessings capitalism bestows. Or when their buddy, Warren Buffett, broadcasts the importance of hiking tax rates on successful earners and investors."

These successful capitalists are not advocating the command-and-control, state-run economics that was the Soviet Union. How foolish and self-serving to assume this to be the case.

Each of these independent men see deficiencies and great inequalities in current arrangements. Do they need a lecture on how capitalism promotes economic growth? Judging from their success, I think they understand the positive aspects of capitalism. What you, Mr. Lawrence Kudlow, can't bear to see or admit are the numerous negative side effects of capitalism. Why Is it "anti-capitalist" to be concerned with the world's poor, universal health care, affordable housing and educatiion?

Mr. Kudlow's article is a call for "cheerleading" instead of analysis and solid improvements in the way the world economies conduct business. If our most successful businessmen are precluded from expressing their studied judgements on the economics of the day, then whom is better qualified to dig down and come up with alternatives?

Cheerleading capitalism has its place on the stage of life but Mr Kudlow's is a step back into darkness and ignorance.
