Here's an idea to really help the middle class that's simple, fair, and easilly implemented.

First, remove the cap entirely on the Social Security deduction. Why should a C.E.O pay a far smaller proportion of his income on social security than a firefighter, teacher, or police officer?

Second, reduce the payroll tax 1% across the board - from the current 7.65% to 6.65%. This would have the effect of lowering the tax for those currently making less than the cap, keeping it the same for those making slightly more than the cap - those in the low 100s - and raising the tax for those in the uppermost income brackets, who really do need to pay their fair share.

What we have now is a regressive tax. Let's at least make it flat...and fair.
