NYU Freshman's Suicide Raises Adjustment Issues

Submitted by Elizabeth, Jan 12, 2008 03:13

Currently, I work at a major university and I would honestly not send my children here. It would take a few pages for me to detail what I see as parents having to pay too much money that really only goes into the pocket of Administrator's and some faculty. Many of the students take drugs to keep up with the demands and pressures of the university. Trust me, if parents knew what goes on behind the scenes, they would not think that these are the best years of the students lives.

Additionally, at these major universities the parents often have a lot of money, so they send their kids to these elite institutions. What a joke! These students think money will get them everywhere and they show total lack of respect for their peers and the faculty. I have never seen anything like this nor do I want to live my life in this environment. Several of my new colleagues have left for these reasons.

Furthermore, not only do the students act like snobs but so do many of the faculty members! My boss even asked me to unethically pass a student that I did not want to pass due to fraudulent documents. I then got in trouble for it! Unbelievable!

Anyway, keep your kids close to home! Provide a safe haven of love for them. The world truly can be a scary place but I still believe in goodness!
