Lost in ‘Translations'

I must agree that Translations is an extremely enjoyable play but does Yolland really have to disappear to make the story end well? Why couldn't Brian Friel take us on the journey for a little longer? I espect his wishes to end this book on this cliffhanger, but wouldn't you like to know what happened? And how? I would like to know if the characters overcame their personal boundaries of which we learn of in this story.
