City Seeks To Put the Brakes On Employee Parking Abuse

Submitted by tom murphy, Jan 5, 2008 19:00

Last month I attended a forum on the Congestion Parking scheme that has been proposed by the Mayor. I wanted tt be sure the NYC Department of Transportation knew of my concern about parking abuse (with NYC-issued permits) in my Brooklyn neighborhood. I was not alone in this concern.

The DoT monitor wanted to know if I thought I was deserving of a resident parking permit. I stated I thought not. However, in as much as others had received a prior claim to parking, as appears to be the case, I wanted an equal chance at it as well. It's no surprise that the Mayor now recognizes this issue could preclude public approval of his original scheme which has merit.

Some years ago a plan was floated by the NYC Department od Finance to issue IRS Form 1099 forms to City employees who got the benefit of City-provided parking for their privately-owned vehicles. Simple but effective, wouldn't you say?
