Desperately Seeking Visas

Submitted by S. Kolger, Jan 2, 2008 08:39

Instead of a well thought-out analysis of the issues, we get a rehash of all of the old arguments Big Business has been spoonfeeding to the media outlets during their last several months of frenzied lobbying.

I'm sure the Department of Labor is uniquely qualified to oversee this entire charade. Look at page 36 of their 5-year strategic plan at http://www.dol.gov/_sec/stratplan/strat_plan_2006-2011.pdf, (or http://www.dol.gov/_sec/stratplan/ ) where, among other things, they state".. H-1B workers may be hired even when a qualified U.S. worker wants the job, and a U.S. worker can be displaced from the job in favor of the foreign worker."

When something resembling the average American can afford a university education, when blue collar workers can get a job outside of the Wal-Mart empire after their jobs are shipped to China, when tech workers start getting permanent jobs instead of temporary jobs featuring ever-decreasing hourly rates (if they're lucky), when construction workers all across the country are no longer required to learn Spanish to keep their jobs, when HR staff stops complaining about the numbers of resumes they receive, when American workers are no longer required to train their H-1B replacements, when human resource, accounting, legal, and every other type of white-collar jobs stop getting offshored to India, then go ahead and republish.this article.
