Missing Playoffs Would Allow Giants To Rebuild

Submitted by Eric Handler, Dec 20, 2007 13:25

Dear Mr. Smith,

Let me discuss the things I agree with first. Eli Manning may not be the answer and very well might just be a below average quarterback. In footbal, to a large extent, you go as far as your quarterback will take you. If this is true, the Giants will not be able to get to the next level and should get someone who can take them there (I know it is easier said than done with salry cap issues). Next, I never thought Tom Coughlin was a good choice as coach and would still like the Giants to fire him and get someone better. The Giants have a very good , young offensive line. They have two running backs averaging almost five yards a carry with basically the same rushing yards as Tiki Barber had last year (clearly not as good out of the backfield in the passing game.) Plaxico Burress is a very talented receiver when healthy. The two young receivers you mentioned look like they will be good. Shockey is a good tight end who has done more blocking in this offense. Amani Toomer is still good ( even considering sunday), but will not be around for long. Eli absolutely has enough in the ten men surrounding him. The defense leads the league in sacks, is ranked seventh in total defense and clearly has playmakers (they still could use some help in the secondary). The Giants are young overall, in good shape related to contracts, have good overall talent, so to say they need "radical" changes and to "rebuild" is simply not true. What they probably need most is a new coach and possibly a new quarterback. Thank You, Eric Handler
