Bush Can Deal McCain Harm With Iraq Move

Submitted by Jerome C. Borden, Dec 16, 2006 11:37

The idea that Bush could harm Senator McCain's presidential persperations by adopting the Senator's suggestion reveals that there are people out there who are more concerned with politics than doing the right thing. A little sickening, I think. I have no idea how this will play out in the end, but the stakes are huge. The obvious thing is that if the "Western World" abandons this contest, the terrorists of all stripes, not just Islamic extremists, will ramp up the activity because of demonstrated success. If we stay, including a troop increase, there are risks there, too. The end result can go either way. In Vietnam, we allowed ourselves to force an end to the war on Hanoi's terms. When they attacked in 1974-75, we not only didn't respond, but the Senate stopped a $220 Million aid appropriation which sealed Saigon's fate. On the other hand, President Reagan didn't cave in and the Berlin Wall fell shortly after he left office. So, this contest could eventually result in a world subject to Sharia Law or the expansion of Human Rights as described in our Declaration of Independence to places where it doesn't exist at this time.
