ScareTax, Not FairTax
in response to reader comment: Scare Tax Not Fair Tax - 16th Amendment

Submitted by Gene, Dec 17, 2007 10:33

Taxes on earned income is placed on the wage earner by the city, state and federal government for the operation of the governments. These are people we elect to office and then pay them a salary to handle affairs in our behalf. To be perfectly honest not the first elected office is out for effective government - otherwise America would not have a national debt in the trillions. The minute a request for funding hits the city council, state or federal government and cash money is not in the bank to pay it - it should be a dead issue.

Why do the large companies lobby the government officers and take them on fishing trips, skiing, hunting trips - what else but to be award a very fat goverment contract. Who pays for these fat contracts - every American citizen who works and pays taxes.

As the European VAT (Value Added Tax) was discussed by another writer I will explain how this works. For every article purchased or for having a workmen do work on your home they have to collect upto 22% of the invoice total to hand over to the government. Say I want to purchase a lot and build a house. The land cost me 100,000 for a half acre of land I must pay the government 3,500 as a transfer fee from the previous owner to myself, then I have 300.000 to pay for the house and this 66.000 is paid to the government for the VAT leaving me with an actual 234,000 to build and finish the house. Who wins - the government as they received 69,500 dollars because I wanted to build a house, but, wait, I still have to pay 35% taxes on every penny I earn for taxes which does not include social security, medicare or retirement. If I wish to purchase a home on the market I must pay the land transfer tax and a government tax of 3.5% of the purchase price which on a 300,000 home would be an additional 10,500 going directly into the government coffers. Every thing purchased at the grocery store unless it is food is taxed at the same rate while food is taxed at 8%.

Thus, a person buying paper products would be taxed at the higher rate and where do you buy garbage bags, toliet paper, food wraps, lunch bags, etc?

Same on savings - a person saves his money and has already paid the tax and then decided to purchase something using the savings and has to pay the tax again - double taxation.

Say NO to the FairTax Act or anything resembling it until the Fine Print is explained in full details. Do we pay the elected people to work for us or to raise taxes?
