Victoria Theatre Gets Development Partner

HCDC may have chosen this development under a clandestine veil. They were supposed to inform the public and have their input. Keith Wright says they put ads in publications but I have not come across anyone who knew about this meeting. The developer is a friend of Mr. Wright's which I would think would be a conflict of interest. Also the theatre is landmark eligible, which means they would have to consult SHPO before any changes to the theatre are implemented.

Haarlem Victoria Restoration Group submitted a proposal but was immediately rejected under suspicious circumstances. They were and are the only development team calling for restoration of the theatre and their design was in keeping with the landscaping of the 125th corridor.

Why do we continously allow architecture to be destroyed for shinny new structures that have no craftsmanship quality for money.

HVRG had a meeting recently where an HCDC member was invited. She asked "If you have all this money for backing to buy the Victoria, why don't you build another theatre?" "You can't always have what you want and this is about business."

HVRG submitted it's proposal based on community concerns and economics, not the other way around.

When all those elected officials (they are no longer public servants) are not re-elected when their terms are up, they shouldn't take it personally "It's just business"
