It is not surprise with the changing technology and the fact people nowadays prefer to operate their cameras and gadgets more than actually print out phtoos that there is now an abundance of attention on the wonder and materiality of anonymous snapshots Two books which address this from the point of view of photograph albums (from which many single images are taken from and which are quickly becoming extinct in favor of pre-fab scrapbooks and online-sharing) are "Around The World: The Grand Tour in Photo Albums and Snapshot Chronicles: Inventing The American Photo Album. Two must have books if you are interested in vernacular photography.
