Mets Failed To Maximize Potential This Offseason

Hi Tim, I enjoyed your article & feel you made many good points. I definitely feel Milledge did nothing wrong with the high five incident for which he took way too much heat. I think it was pure innocent emotion shared with the fans, not intended to show up or irritate the opposition. The rap album was an incredible lack of judgement as was blowing up two days before the collapse was finalized. There was no excuse for getting thrown out over a called strike. In my mind, that may have been the final straw. I believe the deal was made either b/c management believed Lastings was headed down the path blazed by headcase Milton Bradley, or more likely, he had a very polarizing effect in the clubhouse.... Maybe a large number of players were turned off by his demeanor. There are many fan "blog" websites were people have Lastings ready for the HOF. If he ever hits 43 doubles in 470 AB's like Church, then there will be cause for excitement. Everyone is harping on Schneider not being offensive minded, however his RBI's are right on line with those of Paulie Walnuts. So what if Paulie hits an extra 5 singles per 100 AB's. If Schneider can make the most of the pitching staff's abilities and maximize their potential, that is much more valuable than Paulies few extra singles. I think Paulie offended more than a few people with his speak English comment, even if it was 100% accurate. The team also needed to get younger at C without a doubt.
