Heisman Tenets Should Bend for Brennan
in response to reader comment: Brennan/Heisman

KJ you are exactly right. I sent an e-mail to a "system" sports writer, Ivan Maisel (ESPN), not thinking that I would get a response. Not only did he read my e-mail, but he responded to it an hour after reading my e-mail by subtly addressing me on the front page of the ESPN website last night 12/7/07. Guess he didn't like being called a "system" writer as much as Colt likes being labeled a system QB.

My e-mail simply stated Colts statistics compared to Tebows......to say nothing of the 12-0 season. The SEC, Big 12, and other conferences are only as strong as the media makes them out to be. This year proved that. While this may have been a fluke season, college football will never be the same again as teams nation wide consider what is possible a la Appalachin State. I equate the college football media (especially ESPN) with the liberal media. It really is all about the money and the mantra. The SEC schools are spoiled by the money and perception that they have the strongest conference. It's like anything else that you repeat. Even if it is not true, you begin to believe it after a certain amount of time. That is why you have statistics.

Even a cursory look at Georgia's statistics reveals a mediocre team that is hitting it's stride. Hawaii on the other hand has amazing statistics. Enough said on this.

It has been said that the only chance that Hawaii has to beat Georgia is to keep their offense off the field. They are 37th in the Nation. Hawaii is No. 1. If I am Georgia I worry about keeping Colt and his three 1000 yard plus receivers (Davone Bess, Jason Rivers, and Ryan Grice -Mullen) off the field. These receivers are innovative in it that you will often see them running for more yardage before they catch the ball. How is this possible since conventional wisdom dictates that you catch the ball first and then run. Hawaii receivers knocked that wisdom out of the box by amassing insane YAC(yards after catch) statistics. If you watch these receivers closely, they never stop moving their feet, have good "soft" yet strong hands, and most importantly they virtually never fumble. The thing with Hawaii and points is, how much of a lead is enough? Another gunslinger once said, ".......in all the excitement I kinda lost count myself. The question you have to ask yourself is do you feel lucky? Well do ya? Whether the Bull Dogs feel lucky or not is irelevant. Colt Brennan can and will squeeze the trigger.

Oh yeah blitzes and stunting opens up Hawaii's short game in the form of a shovle pass, the flat (safety valve) pass, and the draw plays that welcome a Bull Dog blitz. All I can say is that Georgia's OC better do the math because Colt and the boys have feasted on man to man defense for the last 3 years.

Last year in the Sheraton-Hawaii Bowl the fantastic four( Brennan, Rivers, Grice-Mullen, and Bess) obliterated Arizona St. DB's for 28 points in 2:40 seconds.

How 'bout the defense? From 96th to 31st in the nation. We'll see how this smaller faster defense who's motto has been "No surrender no retreat" - King Leonidis does.
