I know this is just an opinion article but, damn, don't you guys have any integrity? You attack Kofi Annan as having destroyed the trust of the UN and then offer absolutely no evidence or even rhetoric to back it up. Blaming Mr. Annan for all the failings of the UN is like blaming President Bush for a weak housing market and ineffective local education in Greenwood MS. He neither created the system nor is empowered to change it.

Lastly, you use absolutely horrible examples in a vain attempt to make your point. The UN did nothing about Pinochet because the US was complicit in his bloody reign and would never have permitted the UN to act (notice only British and Spanish courts were doing anything). And that whole remark about the US liberating Iraq is just inexcusable. Liberated from what? How can daily bombings, killings and kidnappings be considered liberation?

Read a book. The UN is only as powerful as its members permit it to be. As long us the US government continues to marginalize the UN whenever it chooses, no one but the West will trust it.
