The Illusion of Organizational Nirvana

"A Place for Everything, and everything in its place." This was most of my past life, from High school on. In college, I was Chairman of Mardi Gras (UCLA student charity event) and in charge of many aspects of the weekend (which took us 6 mo. to plan). By the time it started and we were working from our trailer with our walkie-talkies (in the olden days), I had labeled the whole trailer (probably with paper and tape-no labelers or post-its). I even labeled the "rags" drawer (I cleaned the trailer). Needless to say, it was the big joke of the moment and something I could never live down, until...my later years. I have a big office with 2 big desks, a computer, et. al., and papers and projects and pictures and albums all over the office. I could be better organized, but I spend more time on the computer, and on emails, and organizing my lists; with or without assistants, I get little done because I need more time. If you're neat and tidy, great; and if you have other things to attend to like your kids, family, dinner, I think the latter is more important and, life goes on with or without those labels. In my older years, with some memory loss that comes with it, I'd like more labels, but I sure don't want them on our furniture!! When company comes, I close the door. I think I'm better off!!
