Varejao Offer Scores One For Cavs and the Owners

Submitted by AJ Tucker, Dec 5, 2007 13:11

I neglected to add the Cavaliers now won't be able to escape from under the salary cap for 1.75 more seasons, the point when Varejao escapes. They're tied in to all those other bad contracts that Ferry buried the books with. So not only is Varejao now a worthless asset for trade purposes, but he's also a HUGE monetary cost to Gilbert & Co for the short time when he's staying. They can't spread out his salary expense over time if it was a five to six-year deal. Now they're not only paying for Varejao, they're going to paying DOUBLE his salary for the luxury tax for that same period of time! Over $22 million for less than two seasons, and then he's gone! Outrageous!

And on top of all that, there is not an agent in the NBA that will ever trust Ferry again. Who in their right mind hops a 5,000 mile secret plane ride to circumvent the agent and make a surprise visit at a player's PARENTS' house??!!!!!

Seriously, what is Hollinger talking about? Varejao's agent punished Ferry more than anybody ever thought possible. Game, set, match. For the Cavaliers, this is an unmitigated disaster.
