Tidal Wave of Lawyers Nears, Bar Data Forewarn

From the judiciary section of www.polijam.com I came across this article, which seems to have some optimistic views on the oversaturation of attorneys in New York. The increase in attorney need due to the subprime mortgage crisis will not create a market for as many recent attorneys as are in need of work. The graduates will have to work on their own debt, as they are now forced to accept low paying wages in order to get by. Law firms below the top tier, are now offering lower wages to those in search for anything until they hold out on a better opportunity.

Some suggestions for helping our current attorneys: 1) Let out culture become aware of the decreasing value of the law degee. The legal education is a great education; however, many graduates come away with large debt, and have trouble earning money. The rich attorney is no longer close to the norm. 2) Increase the standards for passing the bar exam, as well as rank those who pass the bar exam. Lets not have an individual from Yale who barely passed the bar, given an edge over someone who passed from a lesser known school, yet passed with ease.
