As Lebanon Goes, So Goes Middle East

quote: If democracy ever takes root in the Arab Middle East, Lebanon has the conditions to sustain it.

I say- this is the most disastrous lie to say today of Lebanon. There was no real balance between the factions before - and the "stabilizing" - was done - by pressure from foreign countries. the "politics of Lebanon as a Levant country" is dead already - by 50 years at least. in the 70's Lebanon had a civil war that was qwenched y the USA army and establishing a government of "cris-cros" factions and minorities. - it came to light - tha the Philistinians were the majority in Lebanon, under Arafat. but the Gov. held them in "refugee camps" - namely - slums. they were not given Lebanese citizenship - thus did not enter the Gov.

the Druz and Junbalat - asked Suria to come and help them "to take power" - and thus another bloody civil war happend. the Druz changed their attitude towards Surian interferance - only after a "surian Puppet" Gov. was established. two Israeli wars with Phatah and Hizballa- caused evacuation of SouthernPhatah to emigrate to Tunis and then come to Israel with an understanding of peacefulness. the other part of Phatah was massacred by a Phatah Surian-oriented officer - Abu-Musa, who became the leading power in Tripoli and around it - which made his faction partner in "running the Poppi fields of Lebanon - with Assad's brother...

Last years - a Maruni former president was murdered and the "blame" - came too close to Suria's President. a sorrounding and coalition of political powers took to allies and demonstrations against the Surian Army- and Assad redrew his army - but left most of the secret services inside Lebanon. an anti-Suria President was elected, and silently - many Surian peoplecame back through the border to South Lebanon as ""hizballa fighters against Israel". last year - NasserAllah the Moslim, Hizballa leader, is trying to seize power in Berut city and qonqwer the aea of the parlament... by force of army. Iran is now involved more and more in Lebanon.
