Fate of Horse-Drawn Carriages in Balance
in response to reader comment: Defender of the Work Horse

As owner of many Draft Horses used Daily at Central PK daily,I can't help but get angry that these fanatical extremists assume our horses never get a vacation on regular basis,or their work schedules. This only proves that for sure they have no clue what they are saying. There are temp limits and weather conditions that prohibit the horses from working.Draft horses are perfectly abe humanely to pull carriages and wagons.Any Horse Teamster articles or magazines will clearly state horses can pull 2 times their weight without wheels. The typical Draft horse in NYC is between 1700-2000 lbs, pulling a 800 lb carriage on level smooth roads for 20 -25 minutes is not even considered work by Teamster standards. The maximum 4 passengers [in most cases 2 pass are the norm] and 1 driver does not effect the weight of the carriage once it starts rolling. Most cities like Philadelphia,Boston,GA,MD,doesn't even havea 4 pass limit, because there is no effect on the workload of the horse once its rolling.Everybody is sure welcomed to their opinion, but lets stay withthe facts.
