I think Mr. Levy would do well to ask any Iraqis if they saw the purpose of the illegal U.S. invasion of their country as liberating them from Saddam's dictatorship. People outside of this country know full well that that many U.S. administrations have supported dictatorships when it was in their interest to do so. They also know that the U.S. has covertly assisted in toppling many a regime it didn't like without subjecting the civilian populace to the horrors of war. Unfortunately a lot of Americans are ignorant of this - unfortunately all too many Americans are bored by the subject of foreign policy.

The Bush administration wanted boots on the ground in Iraq so it could control and shape geopolitical and economic policies in that region. It hasn't worked because of the their vast ignorance of the region and refusal to listen to Middle East experts in the State Department and Pentagon. Most Iraqis, and I've known several for decades, know the Bush Administration doesn't care about them
