The Case Against Homework Comes Alive in Two Books
in response to reader comment: The Remarkable Mr. Kohn

I think those studies are a bit outdated sir. I have my children do their homework yes, but there is a point that I become jealous and so I bring them back to me and my wife and the dog and the home by ending the homework sessions a bit short. Who cares what the outcome is tomorrow, there will be more of it (HW) for its own day. Why are parents so consumed with their children being A students and academic automotons? Look at how most college educated individuals think about what is right or wrong. There is no difference, they say. Or that it does not matter. All this pressure for the sake of going to college? College is not for everyone and it does not guarantee of all things good character. They may be well learned in academics but very deficient in ethics. You may disagree with me and this is good. But will some of us agree that when it comes down to those states of mind when parent and child are just talking about anything on a consistent basis there is more quality education than any school or university or HW? Of the many HW assignments brought home by my children, never has there been one assigment that makes them think about the most important thing; to be an adult.
