Foreign Students Spend Holiday In Amish Country

Submitted by Grace, Nov 27, 2007 12:33

In response to Ms. Sorouri's comment about Thanksgiving being so secular and not whitnessing religious ceremonies, I have to say that she didn't grasp the whole story. Yes, many people treat Thanksgiving as a time to eat and then shop the day after but many do not. Churches across the country have evening services the night before Thanksgiving- including prayers, songs, and religious traditions. The day of Thanksgiving includes prayer before dinner and many times the religious tradition of naming a blessing that God has given them. The group of people that treat Thanksgiving as a religious holiday is not at all small- just estimate in your head the many differant Christian groups and denominations. After all, Thanksgiving is not about giving thanks to each other; it's about giving thanks to God.
