New York City Ballet's Spanish Star

Submitted by Sir Joshua, Nov 19, 2007 09:41

Now that Angel Corella has left ABT and returned to his native Spain to found the Spanish National (soon to be Royal) Ballet it is interesting that Peter Martins (who said he was asleep?) has chosen Mr. Garcia to arive in NYC like a bolt of Spanish lightening and delight us all with some much appreciated Spanish fire. What is even more interesting is that it was Martins and not our resident dolt, Kivin McKenzie who spotted this comet on the horizon and brought him home to roost. ABT is a great company, but a company is the sum of its parts and the loss of Mr. Corella is a BIG loss to ABT and it's small pool of male principals. It looks like Mr. Garcia has in mind to fill his shoes. What is even nicer is that Corella and Garcia have been good friends for many years. Good luck Mr. Garcia we look forward to your great success.
