City's Grading of Schools Defies Popular Notions

Submitted by Anna, Nov 11, 2007 18:45

Dear Readers,
I am a current freshman of NEST+m High School. I have been attending this school since 6th grade. It's founding principal, Celenia Chevere, encouraged high standards and pushed students to do their best every day. However, after her retirement, the school has been slacking in academic standards and has not maintained its previous high standards. This is a disappointment to many students and parents, and even some teachers. It is a surprise, nonetheless, to find that this school has only received a B. However, its students and faculty remain optimistic and are positive that excellence will continue thriving at this Lower East Side K-12 Public School. It will hopefully keep its previous motto, "We are a public school with a private school mission."
