Mr. Chait's beef is with Washington, your reviewer states; mine is with your reviewer's quaint revulsion for New Dealism --as though he'd just discovered a new dragon. Like many reactionaries masking as conservatives, he's offended by non-serious analysis of serious subjects,evidentally convinced that irony and a satirical eye invalidate points of view that are, paradoxially, not to be taken seriously.
