The writer's sweeping dismissal of Bush's record as "disastrous" had the scent of apology. It seemed an attempt to make views more palatable to the very Bush bashers being bashed. I found the presentation of this particular "credential" gratuitous, but uglier still was the permission granted to hate Bush on an "emotional" level. I don't believe Mr. Mallaby is professionally qualified to issue such a pardon, and it was most unbecoming of him to attempt to do so.
