Merit Pay Plan Raises Questions On How To Measure Performance

Submitted by Steve, Oct 29, 2007 07:53

Sorry, but commision sales is not merit pay. Bonus money for selling the most id profit sharing and does not cost the company a penny. Market incentives increase profits. The dynamic of teacher merit pay more complex than any of us know.

In the absence of well-tested means for measuring and rewarding teacher and administrator performance, informal systems have emerged. Many of these systems are lacking in fairness to teachers and administrators, have little by way of scientific evidence for their effectiveness in elevating student achievement, and are often counter productive.

In Florida, Dibels is being used to measure learning gains. Dibels is a diagnostic tool. Whats more important is anyone can buy it and if you do and try to help your kid the test results are not valid according to the folks who developed it.

Sorry Goldman Sachs and such are not the best place to go unless you think kids are widgets.
