Déjà Vu at Columbia

I should add to what I said above about George Antonius and his patron, Charles R Crane, that Crane helped to finance the 1936-39 so-called "Arab Revolt" in the Palestine mandated territory [Jewish National Home]. The British-appointed Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin el-Husseini, was the political leader of this revolt, which Horace Samuel called Revolt by Leave, in his pamphlet of the same name. Crane's contact with the Mufti was through Antonius, his employe, and Antonius was also active with the Arab Executive and the Arab Higher Committee, bodies headed by the Mufti.

This information is supplied in an article by FW Brecher, "Charles R Crane's Crusade for the Arabs, 1919-1939, " in Middle East ern Studies, vol 24, no. 1 (January 1988).
