Former Spy's Memoir Contains a Paradox

Submitted by chris, Oct 26, 2007 21:16

The "Memoir" doesn't contain a pardox, your projected filters contain a paradox. Out of the entire book, what you chose to focus on, and interpret, was the personal conflict in their marriage, applauding your own wit in seeing Wilson's business and marriage fail. You strip the context out entirely as if, you could go through any of what that couple went through and somehow characterize it against an implied norm.

But that's not where you're so off. The account of the suggestion of Wilson and the memo have been covered and you refuse to catch up. Clearly the memo was directed by someone else even though Valerie Wilson was the actual author. You quote from the second memo paragraph and ignore the first that tells you she is being directed to send this communication by a higher up. If you don't tell people that, they too will only read the second paragraph. This is called "parsing".

I would recommend readers to ignore such opinion pieces like this and go back and examine the actual evidence. Wilson was more than qualified, had served in Africa for over 20 years. He was the charge d'affair in Iraq, and even faced down Saddam Hussain in the first Gulf War. But, again, if you just never mention that, maybe it will never have happened.
