Barely noticeable, almost hidden, on the 2nd Web page of Mr. McIlheran's article, is an issue that few people who even recognise its relevance are brave enough to discuss in the mainstream media: That is the fact that, not only are there millions of people with aptitudes not suited to college studies, but that if the "ideal" of every man, woman, or other hominid creature that exists, getting a college education were to be somehow effected, who would train to be master electricians, master cabinet makers, master mechanics (as in automobile, etc.), master carpenters, and all the other professional trades (though the term "professional" is not granted to such professions)? Indeed, who would be the bus drivers, the subway engineers & conductors, regular train engineers, taxi drivers, sanitation workers, truck drivers...? The list is endless. Whoever conjured up the notion of every living person going to college did society immeasurable harm, and those continuing the fantastic idea, particularly in a day and age when education is being so closely scrutinised, are even worse.
