Good article, but I would not fire Torre. He's an incredible leader, is loved by his players and is a terrific tactician. Yes, he's made mistakes, as anyone would, but he didn't put the bats in his sluggers' non-hitting hands and he didn't pitch the balls for the games his pitchers blew. He has, for the most part, excellent coaches, and a team dedicated to him. They simply fell apart during the playoffs. Blame him? How could anyone? True, the team did not perform during the first half of the season, but their miraculous comeback is due to his leadership and guidance.If anyone should go, I'd recommend Guidrey. Change for change's sake, and use a reason of age as an excuse? I would hardly think so. He's a great master, a general without peer and it would be a major mistake to replace him. And what does 67 have to do with anything? 67 is in the prime of his magical abilities, World Series or not. If I were his free agents, I'd strike on his behalf and resist signing unless they were guaranteed his remaining, at least for one more year. If I were them, I'd make sure Torre strikes in.
