Perhaps there's a distinction between a person escaping political repression and 10 to 12 million illegal immigrants? We are, after all, a nation of immigrants and their descendants. We have countless stories of men who came here and worked in the fields, or the mines, or on the assembly lines, or on the roads; saved their pennies and after several years, brought their wives and infant children here. Passports, quotas. They were in play. Those legal immigrants were also fleeing poverty. We are also a nation of laws. Now we have among us a sub-culture of people actively evading our laws, aided and abetted by marginal producers who turn a blind eye to regulations in order to gain a competitive advantage and make a fast buck.. That should be a cause for concern.
