Your "practical" advice to setting aside the resolution on the Armenian Genocide is unfortunate and inconsistent with NY Sun's tradition of recognizing injustice. Does it matter that the Genocide occurred over 90 years ago? The Holocaust took place over 50 years ago and was also committed by a previous German government. But I cannot imagine someone in Congress or elsewhere debating whether it is convenient or not to discuss or affirm the crimes of the Nazis. In fact, the Armenian Genocide was a prelude to the Holocaust as proven by Hitler's own words, "WHO NOW remembers the Armenians?" just before he embarked on the destruction of European Jewry. Furthermore, Turkey, the "valuable" NATO ally, prevented US forces from flying over Turkey in 2003 even when there was no Armenian resolution. As Pelosi states, there will never be a right time to recognize the Armenian Genocide according to the Turks, but America and its citizens should decide what it right for their government and for their moral character - not Turkey.
