Yankees, and Maybe Torre, Are Out

Submitted by NANCY MCDONALD, Oct 11, 2007 17:15

I could not agree more with the article. I never wanted Jason Giambi. He is a poor first baseman and not very good as a designated hitter. One thing that I think exemplifies the mistakes of this Yankee front office is the way they treated Bernie Williams. It is one of the things I think Mariano Rivera was talking about when he spoke about "things since Spring Training that have made him consider not resigning with the Yankees." Bernie was a proven commidity that would have made a great dseignated hitter and they refused to even think about having him return in that role. Carl Privano makes Jesse James look like a piker. He stole 40 million. The Yankees should definately have put more into their farm system for player development, especially pitching. Look at what they got this year by not trading their top pitching prospects. Look at how many of their true stars, Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Williams, etc. came from that farm system. As far as I'm concerned replacing Joe Torre will not solve their problems. Torre did not pitch or hit. He made some mistakes, such as sticking with Matsui as DH despite the fact that he was in a horrid slump all through September. However, if the true Yankee players such as Posada, Pettite, Rivera, re-sign and the Yankees shore up the bullpen and starting pitching, then Torre can manage as well as anyone when it comes to handling people and with a truly good pitching staff and some young offense the Yankees might once again get to the World Series and win.
