As long as you're handicapping Joe Torre's prospective replacements, I've got just the guy for you. The Yanks can't get it done in October? Then why not bring in Mr. October himself to manage the team? Reggie's credentials are impeccable. After all, he's the straw that stirs the drink. Just what A-Rod, Derek, Mariano, and Andy need.

And why stop at merely managing the Yankees? Reggie Jackson tried to buy the Angels, but was outbid. Now, with the help of a few backers, Reggie can buy the team from Steinbrenner himself, and give ol' George the glorious sendoff to Valhalla he so richly deserves. Then, like Connie Mack was with the Philadelphia A's in a bygone era, he can become the owner-manager, and, as is suggested by one of your fellow columnists, let Joe Torre run for mayor, where I predict he'd do a superior job than the incumbent.
