Israeli Politicians Float Idea Of Dividing Jerusalem

Submitted by Scott Baker, Oct 9, 2007 11:15

Israel seems to have lost the will to live. How else to explain its self-dismemberment, in exchange for nothing more than giving the Palestinian Jihadists more places to launch Qusam missles? The entire argument that Palestine "deserves" to be a country of its own because of alledged agreements in 1948 is spurious anyway. In the last 60 years (slightly longer than Israel has been in existence), we've seen the birth of India - the world's largest democracy; the birth of West and East Pakistan, later Pakistan and Bangladesh, the complete de-colonialization of Africa, the rise and then disintegration of the Soviet Union into Russia and a dozen satellite states, the breakup of Yugoslovia into 3 to 4 countries, the overall increase in the number of countries by about one third, the greater than doubling of the world population and the ten-fold increase in consumption and standard of living (whatever its furture consequences for the planet). In short, talking about something that happened in 1948 as the basis for statehood is like using the example of ancient Greece to argue for world-wide democracy. Relevant in the broadest sense, but for from the most compelling and timely argument. Personally, I'd like to turn the clock back too - but to 1979 - when Israel still had control of the Sinai.

Israel has a lot of friends (still) but none of them can save her if she's lost the will to survive.
