Role of Mayor at Bloomberg LP Is Eyed

Submitted by Thomas J. Hillgardner, Oct 7, 2007 10:03

The role of the Mayor should be eyed with regard to the award of cable television franchises that by order of the Conflicts of Interest Board he is barred from participating in negotiations. Nonetheless, Juan Gonzalez of the Daily News reports that Mayor Bloomberg's aides are in secret meetings with Verizon negotiating a cable franchise agreement that would allow Verizon to enter the market and compete with Time Warner Cable and Cablevision. Hey, I am all for competition, but not on whatever terms Verizon proposes, or on terms that benefit Bloomberg LP at the expense of the citizens of the City of New York! If you pay money for video services in New York City, you should be checking your wallet right about now.
