G.P. comments "the author of the article may be neither a real expert on opera nor an enthusiastic opera fan."

Firstly let me inform you that the author of the article is a real expert and a very enthusiastic opera fan. On the other hand let me remind you that from its beginnings opera was (and still is) a popular form of art that, for centuries, have reached (at least in Europe) a substantial group of people from every social strata. So I truly believe that in opera grounds the real experts are the large crowds and not a small group of so called (and self called) "experts". The three great tenors owe their fame and fortune to the masses that loved them. Clever marketing came after and took advantage of that spontaneous popularity. If we can really talk about successors I think they will be the ones that, at this point, audiences are starting to point at. Any other opinion, albeit valid, is sort of irrelevant. That is democracy!!
