What Would Jane Think?

Submitted by Benjamin Hemric, Oct 4, 2007 13:33

In an interview in the "New Yorker" (in the Spring of 2004?), Jane Jacobs actually said it might be a good idea to keep the WTC site as a superblock -- "break the grid decisively" is what I think she was quoted as saying. And if one reads her writings carefully, including "Death and Life of Great American Cities," one sees that this is not really all that surprising, but very much consistent with her thinking in that book (and her writings and actions elsewhere).
