Instead of discussing his opponents' ideas and refuting them, Governor Spitzer just call his opponents nasty names. He's a bully who gets away with it too often. Of course not all immigrants are terrorists. Nobody said that. But it's true that un-controlled illegal immigration is a serious terrorism vulnerability. Most immigrants, illegals included, are decent people. But we as a people are obligated to provide for the nation's security and to set the terms of immigration. We have to determine a policy and enforce it. I hope we can agree to treat illegals humanely as we work this out. It's a very complicated issue for many reasons. But the Governor's proposals are dangerous and his shrill remarks are counter-productive. They prevent the proper discussion from taking place.
